No trip to Morocco is complete without an Ait Ben Haddou day trip! Ait Ben Haddou is UNESCO protected and the town itself is the main attraction, with mud buildings arraigned along the side of the hill. The Granary at the top of the hill is impressive and well worth the effort to get up there.
The Mausoleum of Ben-Haddou is at the base of the hill on the opposite side to the town. You can also pay a visit to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and to Taourirt Kasbah.
Marrakech – Tizi N Tichka Pass 2660m – Ait Ben Haddou
We depart early in the morning from Marrakech (8.00am) and head towards Ait Ben Haddou through the high Atlas Mountains (with small stops on the way to take in the beautiful landscapes and the Berber villages). Our first big stop is to visit Teloaut Kasbah (the seat of the El Glaoui family’s power), an impressive 18th century fort at 1800m.
Afterward, we’ll carry on to the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a 16th century fortress classified by UNESCO as a human international Heritage. Ait Ben Haddou is also a popular filming location, and films such as Kingdom Of Heaven, Gladiator and The Mummy have all been shot there.
